Make it so the site remembers your postcode for new searches

Every time I searched a new keyword or went into a different catagory I had to put in my postcode again to find out how far away things were. Please could the site remember the postcode. thanks

    Status: completed

If you use the search form then the postcode is remembered. Using the search form to change category rather than the category list will ensure your keywords and postcode are remembered.

    freecycle

What are you doing that isn't already being done better by freecycle?

    Status: completed

We aim to provide a more user-friendly recycling website. The web-site allows you to search for items near your house and customise your email alerts to reduce the number of unwanted emails. For example you can choose to received all items in your area or search for your chosen item throughout the country.

We also don't clog up your email inbox with received, collected and wanted items.

Over the coming years we'll be adding the new features that you have requested via this feedback area to make it easier and more fun to recycle unwanted items.

    Thanks,

    Chris.

Why are you duplicating posts from Freecycle?

I have seen duplicate posts here lifted directly from my local Freecyle. Isn't that a copyright infringement? When people haven't signed up to your group, what right do you have to display their details?

    Status: completed

We DO NOT duplicate posts from Freecycle.

Members may have added their items to both Freecycle and SnaffleUp and are very welcome to do so in an effort to ensure their items are saved from landfill.

At the end of the day the important thing is that items aren't thrown in the bin.

    Too far away

Items are too far away from me, will others from my area be coming on here

    Status: completed

Sorry to hear there aren't enough items in your area. The site is growing quickly so I'm sure there will people in your area soon.

You could try using the invite friends page (http://www.snaffleup.co.uk/friends/invitefriends) to invite people you know in your area. Also mention the web-site on any local community sites.

Alternatively you could search a bit further afield and suggest to the member that they post the item if you cover the cost of postage.

If you can't do any of these things make sure you have your local email alert turned on so you will receive items in your local area once you have a few more members in your area.

Why do you notify people about the site by spamming them?

    Status: completed

We don't spam people. We have a user invite system similar to Facebook. The system ensures that non-members should only receive a maximum of 1 invitation to use SnaffleUp from another member. All invitations to non-members include a unsubscribe link to ensure they never receive another invitation email from us.

If anyone has received more than one invitation email from us from the same SnaffleUp member or after clicking the unsubscribe link please contact us here: http://www.snaffleup.co.uk/contactus

make clear the basis on which you operate. for profit or not

    Status: completed

The web-site was not set up for the purpose of generating a profit and at this stage the advertising revenue does not cover the costs involved in running the site.

If, in the future, this situation changes any extra money raised will be put back into improving the website and supporting the members or donated to charity.

upload confirmation should be nearer browse/upload buttons

I tried to upload the same image 3 times when it had already been uploaded, simply because the confirmation was below my scrolled area... suggest that this confirmation might be better closed to the browse / upload buttons...

    Status: completed

We've moved the confirmation box to above the browse and upload section. This should make it easier to upload your images.

We have more improvements to image uploads coming soon.

A map showing the collector how to get to the meeting area

Once I've agreed to meet someone to pick up an item it would be good to automatically send a map of directions on how to get to the area.

    Status: completed

Currently we aren't showing a map of directions but we do show a map of the item.

A map of directions sent with the item owner's permission will be introduced in the future.
